How to Commission Oil Portraits
(Other mediums available upon request)
1. Select a Reference Photo
Find a picture of the person(s) or pet(s) you would like depicted. It is important to choose pictures that are clear and detailed with good lighting. Toya will review and provide honest assessment on whether work can realistically be produced from the reference photo of your choice. There are a myriad of reasons a reference photo may not work, so have a couple of options in mind.
2. Select a Size
Pick a size. See base prices by size chart at the bottom of this page. Consider where you will hang your piece. Will it be the main piece above a fire place or a smaller addition to a gallery wall? Office? Den? Library? It is highly suggested that you whip out a tape measure or ruler to get a better idea of the size you would like. Unstretched canvas is an ideal option for international orders, as shipping rolled canvas in a tube may be more economical than shipping canvas on a wood frame.
3. Run Your Idea By Toya
Use the contact form, or message Toya on FaceBook about your picture and size options to receive an estimated cost. Costs are estimated, as shipping can not always be predicted. Prices may change based on the complexity of the work. Detailed clothing, excessive jewelry/adornments, tattoos, extra people, and backgrounds are examples of things that may result in a price increase as they tend to require a lot more time and attention. These adjustments will be established and agreed upon before the work begins.
4. Pay Your Deposit
Deposits are a non-refundable payment made to secure necessary supplies and a time slot. They are non-refundable and non-negotiable. Payment plans may be made available on a case-by-case basis, but please understand that no work will begin before 50% of your total cost is collected. Deposits and any payments collected are non-refundable.
5. Be Patient
Great work takes time! Most portraits require 6-8 weeks for completion, but times may vary. Please discuss any timing constraints or requirements prior to paying your deposit. Rush orders (less than 6 weeks) may be requested for an additional fee.
Portraits will be shipped as soon as your piece is paid in full with shipping and handling.
